1962 oldsmobile : Not a stupid question at all. You must be VERY young and you are makingme feel VERY old and I'm not, I'm really not, I swear!I remember when the ignition was on the dash rather than the steeringcolumn, when there were only lap belts and they were OPTIONAL, unleadedgas?, square headlights? (not a YJ reference but a general observation),hood locks that open from inside?, front wheel drive?, analog clocks(NEVER worked), no bells chimes or buzzers, headrests?, (Hearing) "Fillit." handing the attendant $5, getting change and green stamps,self-serve?, "high-test" gas, those little triangular side ventwindows.......Any others? And don't forget <g>... high-octane gasoline selling for .28 per gallonfrom Richfield service stations but only .23 at Powerine! I remember mydad yelling at me when I kept insisting he use the high-octane gas forhis new 1962 Oldsmobile because it gave the car more power!!! I havebecome my father LOL!!You know Jerry, that's not such a bad thing. I could only hope to be asintelligent as my Dad and have some of his qualities.Samuel Clements (Mark Twain) once wrote: "When I left home a sixteenI was convinced my father was a fool. When I returned home attwenty-one I was amazed at how much he had learned during my absence."

1962 oldsmobile : (from memory, please forgive any unintentional paraphrasing...)I remember the first time I looked down at my hands while leaning outon a balcony railing to take in the view and realized that the skin onthem was crinkled with age JUST LIKE MY FATHER'S WERE when I was ayoung boy. Shook the hell out of me.Regards,Brett C. Cammack - 1988 XJThat's Racing! MotorsportsPompano Beach, FLFloor-board-mounted high-beam switches, odometers that went up to 135, BASEMETAL, am-only car radios, and transmissions you couldn't break.Motorola Vibrasonic (gave the monaural radio a pseudo stereo-like 'echo'sound), and under-dash Motorola FM radio converters that plugged into anAM car radio's antenna port so you could listen to FM through your car'sAM radio! When I added the Vibrasonic and FM converter to my canaryyellow '57 Chevy (alas, a 210 model, not the more desireable BelAir)with deep reverse-dish chrome wheels in 1964, it was definitely theChevy everyone wanted to cruise the drive-ins in LOL!Yeah, rub it in Tom, <g>... you know, drive-ins! Like drive-in moviesand restaurants! What, they're all gone now?? No more???? Sheesh!

1962 oldsmobile : Hello all, I am looking for information on the results of unhooking the power lead to my A/C system. Does anyone know if this will cause any damage or if it will even make a difference in the A/C clutch kicking in or not? I want to have all the power back that this is taking away from me but I don't want to ruin the system either. I don't ever use the A/C but if I were to sell it it would be nice if it would work. The power it draws from the engine is so barely noticeable I'm surprisedyou're concerned. I'd guess that if it never ran, that it's seals coulddry out. Not to mention the car taking *substantially* longer todefrost (or keep them defrosted) the windows. A/C removing excessinterior moisture is the secret to how fast and how well the interiorglass can stay clear. I wouldn't bother, Pete, and I wouldn't worryabout it either. Kind of reminds me of my dad's uncle swearing at mydad for buying a new 1962 Oldsmobile with A/C, saying the A/C would"wreck the engine" <g>! He angrily demanded thay he be allowed (but wasrefused) to remove the A/C system in it's entirety LOL!
