1965 oldsmobile starfire : Yep, its pretty phenomenal the number of new castings PM has turned out inthe last year and a half! (Though I think some of them could have been better-proportioned and detailed ;-) One thing I'd personally like to seeis as PM continues to expand their line is some European and Japanese cars--perhaps a vintage Japanese sports car line with a Toyota 2000GT, Datsun 240Z,Datsun roadster, ?? .. or ?? ..(of course, they are doing a Speed Racer set, which are technically Japanese cars ;-)).. anothertheme that would be pretty cool, I think, would be 'Great American LandYachts' with cars such as a '61 Lincoln Continental conv., '63-64 CadillacCoupe deVille, a '64 Chrysler Imperial, a '63 Olds Starfire, a '65 Pontiac 2+2,a '69 Mercury Marauder, etc... This would make me very happy ;-)I think I'd buy a set of those, really. =) I'd prefer them over any exoticcar series. Well, happy collecting!Nick---------------------------------------- --------------------------1965 Oldsmobile 98 TIP # 1048 Trade Live ConcertsDallas, Texas MiSTie # 53344 Collect Hot Wheels---------------------------------- --------------------------------Robert: I agree except about the 63 Starfire. My dad had a 62 Starfire and itwould fly! He took me out on a road that led up to a refinery one day inArkansas when nobody was around and we topped out the speedo.....over120mph. This was before the 360 or so engine burned up in Memphis and heinstalled a 69 Rocket 455 in it. It was a cool car!Bruce

1965 oldsmobile starfire : Olds FAQ -- 88 / 98 / Delmont 88 / Delta 88 / Dynamic 88 /Jetstar I /Jetstar 88 / Starfire / Super 8888 / 98 / Delmont 88 / Delta 88 / Dynamic 88 /Jetstar I / Jetstar 88 /Starfire/ Super 88History Dynamic 88 It happened right after WWII. 1946 had the dynamic series of 66, 68, 76,78, and yes, the Dynamic 98. It was a part of the promotion of the Hydra-matic drive that was introduced in 1939, for the 1940 model year. The automatic transmission was perfected (so to speak) in the tanks, so soldiers thatmay have lost a limb could operate the tanks w/o pushing a clutch. From 1946 to 1948, Oldsmobile gave a new Olds to every soldier missing alimb. A new car with the Hydra-matic automatic transmission, to help promote the sales of Oldsmobiles with the hydramatic. The owner had to add the extras, e.g., turn signals, enlarged break pedal, interior and exterior rear view mirrors, heat, windshield washer, back up lights, etc. Since the body style was still the prewar design, they used the term"dynamic" for the smart lines of the car, and the smart grill the car had. Theslogan was, "it's smart to own a(n) (Dynamic) Olds". In 1948 the bodystylesstarted to change to the 48-53 design that many may know of with the V-8 engine(the rocket engine). In 1949 the Dynamic 88 was introduced. As for the 66, 68, 76, 78, and 98, the first of the two numbers representthe body size. The 60 series was the smallest with a 119" wheel base. Thesecond number was the number of cylinders. So a dynamic 66 was the smallest carwith an in-line 6 cylinder engine (238 cu in) and a base price of $1,733. The68 was the same car but with an in-line 8 cylinder engine. Futurmatic 88 Came about in mid 1948. Holiday 88 The 1978 to 1981 Holiday 88 was like a Pace car: full size car with aconsole (!), Calais style bucket seats, floorshift console, and big Rally wheelswith huge center caps. Special "Holiday 88" tags on the outside rear sail panel identify this model. Jetstar 88 The Jetstar 88 series didn't run "full size" car components in it's drive train. It shared its drivetrain components with the Cutlass line. It wasthe only big car that year to run the 330 small block, the two-speed Jetawaytrans and the small 9.5 inch drum brakes with the small 4.75 bolt circle wheels.
1965 oldsmobile starfire : Production '66' -- '60' series body with a I-6 engine '68' -- '60' series body with a V-8 engine '76' -- '70' series body with an I-6 engine '78' -- '70' series body with a V-8 engine '88' -- '80' series body with a V-8 engine '98' -- '90' series body with a V-8 engine The Delmont was only available in 1967 and 1968 and it came standard withthe 330 in 1967, the 350 in 1968, and the 425 was an option. They were a replacement for the Dynamic 88 of earlier years, and were replaced by thebase Delta 88 line in 1969. Olds originally thought of calling the this modelthe Delrado (Delmont-Toronado) but changed it to Delmont at the last minute. These were full size 88 bodies with more entry level trim. Standard engines were smaller than Delta models, but Delta and 98 engines were optional. The Jetstar 1 was built from 1964 to 1966. It was a companion to theJetstar 88, and used the notchback Starfire body. It was intended as a lowerpriced alternative to the Starfire, and came with less standard equipment, according to the article. For example, whereas the Starfire came standard withleather interior and auto trans, the Jetstar 1 came standard with 3-speed manual(I doubt many came this way) and vinyl interior. Although the article listed production figures, it was darn few and much rarer than the Starfire forall years. Externally, the Jetstar 1 had much less chrome and ornamentetionthan the Starfire, also. The Delmont, Dynamic, and Delta were all 88's. The Jetstar and Delmontcame with smaller engine (330/350) and transmission (Jetway). The rest of therange came with the larger engine (425/455) and transmission (Turbo Hydramatic). From 1969 and onward, the full size line up consisted of just the 88 (in a form of Delta or Royale) and 98. In all years, the long wheel base fullsize was the 98.
