acura 3.0 cl : BTW, you can always shift the car manually anyway, thats what I do. Letit rev to 6000 rpm in first gear, then second, etc etc .... :-)I wouldn't really put the A4 in that realm..a quick test-drive will reveal its inferiority to an ES300, I30, or 3.0 CL...it's more of a Camry/Accord fighter if anything...plus it's 0-60 isn't too hot either..BUT, on the other hand, it does have a price advantage to some of its competitors. If you want a car in that class that does have a manual, try a volvo 850Turbo on for size...it might cost more, but it'll thrill a HELL of a lot more than any A4.I would like opinions/experiences with the Acura 3.0 CL. I have readsome reports that claim that there is virtually no difference betweenthis Acura and some of the Honda Accords. Is it worth the extra cost? What is the factory invoice price for this car? What would be areasonable price to pay (I am looking at the 3.0 CL with the premiumpackage). Also, has anything changed (interior or exterior colors available, etc.)for the 1998 model year? Acura 3.0CL basically has the same engine as the 1998 Accord V6. But it's based on the 1997 Accord design. Just like Lexus/Toyota, Acuradealers offer somewhat better service and longer warranty (3yr vs. 4yr) andalso offers T.L.C. service which offers free road side assistance, loanercar, etc.

acura 3.0 cl : Subject: Acura 3.0CL vs Camry LE V6. Now what ? From: Christopher Yo Date: 1997/01/20 Christopher Yo writes: The Acura will have a more livelier handling than the Camry. Both are pretty good cars. Frankly, I think the CL has betterlooks. IMO, the Acura has a better interior, better meterials, and better handling, but only two doors. The Camry has a bunchof goodies, and is a little bit cheaper. Both should be veryreliable. If you dont mind paying the extra money, and onlytwo doors, I would get the CL if *I* was in your scenario....but I'm not you, take a test drive it'll help your decisionbetween the two. Yes, there are many Camry owners, *BUT* its kinda hard to find themcause most of them dont lurk in a Honda Newsgroup. :)I've crossposted this to the driving newsgroup, you should get morefeedback. ----Rod My home page: ASI: ---------------------------------------- --------------------1994 Toyota Supra Turbo * 1996 Honda Accord LXTony said: ...thats okay, there's always me. :) heh, heh Oh, THANK YOU Tony, now I feel Insulted. Of course, its intended target was the Lexus SC 300. Oh, darn, this is a first. I just got insulted twice in one post....the Accord I'm leasing is a 4DR. LX. ...and frankly its not asisolated as the Camry. ...and it does handle with a little flair thatthe Camry doesnt. Only partial? hehe, hehe ...is that why you're bad mouthing the Accord? heheheh j/k ----Rod My home page: ASI: ---------------------------------------- --------------------1994 Toyota Supra Turbo * 1996 Honda Accord LX

acura 3.0 cl : Hello all,Sorry if this is the worng group but my ISP shows no Acura specificgroup...I have been looking at getting a 2 door coupe for my wife. Of allthe cars that we test drove she really liked 2 cars. The Pontiac Grand PrixGTP and the Acura 3.0CL. I am trying to steer her towards the Acura. (Themajor reason is that the Grand Prix is worth bubkus in 3 years) Her onlyqualms with the Acura vs. the Grand Prix are power and rear seat space. Therear seat space is no big deal. The power unforunately is. The Acura wasquite powerful but it lacked compared with the GTP's 240HP. (She is a powerhungry fool like me) Well I was thinking about getting her the Acura andmaking a couple of quick and easy mods to the engine. Being as that I amnot very familiar with aftermarket mods for Japanese cars I have no idea ifthere exist any for this car. I don't want to spend too much. I want tokeep it under 2 grand. (That rules out a supercharger, I am currentlygetting ready to purchase a Vortech for my 96 Mustang Cobra) Also nonitrous since I want her to have the extra HP all of the time. I am lookingat simple things like a larger air flow meter, throttle body, etc... Butagain I don't know what will work on these cars and what won't. For examplelarger Mass Air Flow meters gave a few horses to the Ford 5.0's but doalmost nothing for the Quad Cam 32 Valve 4.6 that I have. So enoughbabbling from me... any help would be greatly appreciated.

acura 3.0 cl : Dino96 Mystic Cobra(Edelbrock Exhaust, 3.73's, K&N with no silencer...waiting to get theVortech)If you're picking the CL 3.0 for performance... you're probably picking thewrong car. If it's for luxury, it's great. The 3.0 V6 is going to be outin the new Accord for '98. It is a great engine and you can probablysqueeze some extra power out of it by getting a new air intake,header/exhaust, and some stuff like that. It will cost some extra $$$though and the CL is about $25k to start with, don't know if that's anissue for you or not. I do think it blows the doors of the Pontiac GrandPrix GTP though in about every catagory.. I would certainly pick the Acuraover it. I myself have a '96 Accord EX-L coupe (automatic) which isessentially the same as the Acura 2.2CL. I think it has plenty of powerfor me (I'm 18 so I love to have some fun with it!) but yet it doesn't havequite enough to get me thrown in jail. <g> I have had a couple tickets init though. I would say your wife should look at a more performanceoriented vehicle if the Acura doesn't cut it. Just my .02 cents. As forbackseat space, that is fine for me... I can get 4 people in the car withno problems. If you want 5, you should get either an Accord EX-V6 sedan oran Acura TL 3.2. Anyway, have fun... next time I'm hoping to get aPrelude. :)

acura 3.0 cl : Couldn't agree with you more. The CL is a really good luxury car...but Ithink it stops there. I have an Accord EX-V6...great car. Better than my94 EXL Coupe..but MUCH more speeding-ticket-prone..heheh.. the 4Cyl VTECcar lets you know when you hit 110MPH...the V6 really doesn't. ;-) badfor me.Steve, the 2.2 L VTEC with the automatic is good but like you said, the V6I'm sure is much less revealing about what speed it is going. The 4cylinder is bad enough about that! I can't wait to see that new 3.0 L V6show up in the Accord. I just hope it makes it to the coupe. I have atough choice coming up in early '98. I have to decide between getting anew Acura Integra GS-R 5 speed 2dr w/leather, Accord EX-L coupe (5 speed 4cylinder or V6 w/automatic if it becomes available), or a Honda Prelude. That's a tough choice... all are great cars with great performance. Ifanyone wants to give me an idea what they think is best and why, please letme know! I know each has it's strong points and weak points, but it lookslike these 3 are the big choices for me. I really love my '96 Accord EX-Lcoupe (auto), but I don't think I'm going to keep it when my lease ends. Reply here or e-mail me at Thanks for any comments!
