acura com : You can hear it yourself. Just walk up to the rear drivers side door ofany '99, '00 or '01 TL...the gently press the lower left corner of thewindow. It will move slightly and you'll hear a "chuu" sound. Try going ona 6 hour drive listening to that every couple seconds in your left ear.I'm so mad about it this will probably be my last Acura.Acura makes a big deal about the sound proofing in the car and how quiteit is...yeah right. They don't mention the window seal noises, I also hada "rattle" in the dash from behind the glove box (which I discoveredalmost immediately after I bought the car...think it was coming from ametal tab), and they don't mention the noise from the center arm rest whenyou lean on it...this thing looks like it was made by Mattel...cheapplastic "latch" with a dab of pink grease on it (Acura should study thearm rest in the '90 Mazda 626 I had, THAT was a well made car). There isalso a "wind whistle" when you get above 55MPH...sounds like its comingfrom the back of the drivers window, but my dealer says its from theoutside mirror...another "build characteristic" they can't fix.
acura com : This stuff pisses me off so much you can't believe it. This is a $30,000car. And there is so much to love about this car. The engine, thesportshift, the layout of the interior is near perfect, the leather seatsare awesome (even for a flat ass like mine)....but what gives with thecheap plastic creaky arm rest and creaky window seals? The arm rest alsomakes a loud BOOM if you have it slid forward then bring your arm back andOh, and I forgot to mention the coin tray in the TL...you can put a couplecoins in there, but if you put more than few the chances are one of themwill jam it up so you can't open or shut it. I kid you not. Acura left theback open so coins can slide out the back and get caught in the springmechanism. My dealer had to take mine apart to fix it.That happened to my '93 Accord. I had so much coins in there (everytime Iget change from buying stuff, I put it in there), it was stuck so bad that Ihad to pound it in order to make the coins move a bit. After that incident,I rather put them in the ashtray. As far as the noise you get from your TL,I had simular problems on my Accord, funny thing is that it only happensduring cold weather. I didn't really fix it, but if you post something on awebsite with pics and sound, I think I'll be able to help you out. I had afew Hondas in my life, but currently a Toyota. I love Hondas for theirengineering and style, but the Toyota is much more durable and solid. Idon't get squeeks or loud engine ticks ('93 Accord) or what so ever. I wasin a market to get the TL, but settle with a SUV instead."Jeff" wrote in message... acura com : You know, if it wasn't for the noisy window seals, the creaky arm rest andrattle in the dash my opinion of Acura and the TL would be near 100%positive. There are a few other quirks in the car (ever set the climatecontrol to 60 when it's 12 degrees out? You immediately get blasted withcold air at full power) but no car is perfect. This is a complex machine,it can't be perfect. The thing about the arm rest is I just don't understand it from a designor public relations philosophy. Here is a part of the car the driver (theguy who just paid $30,000 to Acura) comes in direct contact with everytime he or she drives the car. Why would you want something cheap andcreaky (that has its rubber bumpers fall out)? When I look at this itmakes me wonder "if Acura makes THIS this cheap what else on the car ischeaply made"? Rightly or wrongly it reflects badly on the whole car...andputs a big question mark in the drivers mind. This is the same driver whowill be buying another car in 3 or 4 years and you just made him questionthe quality of your car because you didn't spend an extra $20 to do itright. Maybe Acura saved $20 building the TL, but it may have just costthem a future $30,000 sale and lost a repeat customer. acura com : I mean, you see this cheap thin plastic tray with its cheap plastic latch(that's formed from the tray) with the pink grease on it (I guess to keepit from sweeking) and you start to think "geez...I hope Acura didn't cutcorners on the engine or brakes too!". The leather center arm rest mayLOOK great, but you as an owner quickly realize its poor design andquality. Why doesn't Acura understand this? I looked at the one in the newMDX...it's made in a similar way, which just floored me. Acura wants theMDX to be perceived as a "tough" truck? They aren't going to do it withthis. And I understand that for Acura to put out a car like the TL with thefeatures it has at $30,000 they have to do everything they can to minimizeproduction costs (did you know the bottom door jam (like a lot of theinterior parts) isn't even held in place by screws? It just snaps in placewith plastic snaps). But, in my opinion, in some places they went to far. When I compare the way some thing are put together in the TL to my '90Mazda 626 (a car that costs almost half as much) my respect for Mazda justgrows...and I just wonder what Acura was thinking. acura com : I know I may sound like I'm really bashing Acura. So I should say thisagain: THERE IS A LOT TO LOVE ABOUT THE TL (it's performance and handlingare one of them). But my car payment is currently more than my mortgage(less property taxes) and I have to listen to creaky window seals everytime I drive it (except in summer when the humidity is higher and I drivewith windows open). And I find this extremely annoying.Oh, and I would offer another suggestion to Acura if they are listening:When you buy a new Acura they send you questionnaires out on a regularbasis, which for the most part ask you how your dealer is doing....myAcura dealer has, by and large, been great. My problems have been with theCAR Acura built. Acura should ask its customers more about their cars andless about their dealers. To be honest with you, the TL is a lot of car for the price. I think it'sone of the best value car in it's class. I compared the TL with the Lexus ES300 and the TL wins hands down. More power, better handling, sports shift, more room, not to mention the look. I think in order for Honda to make a carlike the TL and have a MSRP of $30K, they must of cut corners somewhere. Ihad a chance to look at the MDX at the auto show last month, and it was oneof the main attractions at the show. I think the MDX is gear toward theLexus RX 300, Benz ML 320 and the Infinity (forgot the model, looks like thePathfinder). I think those cars are in their own class, sort of a richperson's semi-suv. I can't see someone going off road with any of thembecause they will probably be upset when the interior is getting muddy. Ithink the MDX is a vehicle that's between a TL and the Honda Odessey van.
