It would be best for dealer to do it since they also perform 21-pointcheck ups. And if found any problem, they can fix it under warranty ifapplicable.I would go to dealers if the price are comparable. But $38 or otherservice ripoffs sounds too ridiculous.I just had my first oil-change for my '98 Accord at 2500 miles. The serviceadvisor suggested I do at 3500 but it was free (with a coupon from my autoclub), so I just went ahead and did it. It cost $19.95. The Acura dealer usedto charge same price for my Integra. $38 is definately too much. Try anotherdealership.Actually, I found those xxxK services a waste of money. At least those15K and 45K increments. Just do 30K and 60K... etc. and you'll be fine.Take it someplace reasonable. Also, go someplace where they will do itwhile you wait with no more than a few minutes delay. Oil should bechanged while the engine is hot - that way all of the old stuff drainsout.

They can pretty easilytell whether a car has had regular oil changes. At one time, dealers had a reputation for charging outrageous prices forservice. I've discovered that my local Honda dealer does not charge muchmore than independent shops. They seem to do much better work, too. YMMV, so it's the old "ask your friends who they're happy with" bit. If one insists on dealer oil changes, there are many Honda/Acura dealersthat will do it for $20-30. It's not as if you have to take it to aspecific dealer. Some even throw in a free hand car wash.In fact, the legal burden is on the manufacturer to prove that amanufacturing/materials defect wasn't responsible. Of course theservice advisor won't always see it that way - then it starts gettingmessy when lawyers get involved. But it is advisible to keep all thereceipts to avoid a potenital legal hassle.

Also, an excellent way to find a recommended mechanic that specializes in Acuras is to look for one using the owner-contributed database that the brothers Magliozzi (aka Click and Clack of NPR Cartalk) have created at . Their site is a wealth of good info. By the way, I have all my oil changes done at quick lube places, but I purchase the OEM oil filter from the cheapest Acura dealer(I really should find one cheaper via mail-order) and provide the oil change techs with that (usually a $2 discount) and use Mobil 1 5W-30 oil. YMMV -- I want this engine to last to 150K.Bye

I have changed oil in cars after they have beento one of the quicky types oil change and needed a damned pry bar to loosen theoil drain plug. Also, they WAY over-tighten the oil filter. I can ALWAYSloosen mine without the need for a filter wrench (a little elbow grease isrequired, though) and have never seen a drop leak from them in this state. Besides, for me to do it on base (fly for da NAVY), I can put Mobil 1 in thecrankcase, AND use a genuine factory filter for MUCH cheaper than the jiffylube for synthetic and their run-of-the-mill Fram.

I pay $2.50 for Fram's on sale, and think that buying anOEM filter for a higher price is overkill. I doubt that Honda canrealistically design a better filter than an oil filter company.Frank, dealers try to scare people into thinking that they'll void theirwarranty by not going to the dealer for oil changes. However, one call toHonda's 1800 number will tell you that using any oil/filter that meetsHonda's specifications will do you just as well.I had my first oil change done at the dealership. Their prices are competitiveto those quick lube places and have the advantage of using factory trained, OEMfilter/oil. I'll probably keep going to the dealership because I don't trustthose cheap garage chains. It seems like if you bring in a nice new car, theyget jealous or something and sabatoge it. Took my Acura to chains and onedidn't change the oil filter; mixed too much water in the coolant; left thespark plug loose; and other things I probably don't know about. I guess withcheap labor, you get unprofessional employees. From now on, if I ever goto achain, I'm gonna ask for my parts back.
