infiniti dvd r : In the DVD+R format, I believe there is only one type of disc. There is nodifference between their "for data" and "for video" discs, except that the"for video" disc comes in DVD-movie style cases, so they fit in moreaesthetically with your current DVD collection. The "for data" discs comein regular jewel cases.Do DVD+R/+RW PC drives and DVD+R/+RW video recorders need different discs? No, all discs will be compatible with both data drives and DVD+RW videorecorders. However, it will be possible for manufacturers to create mediathat is "optimized" for video or data applications. Data media willgenerally be cheaper than video media. However, there is no technicaldifference between the two. Note that although DVD+R and DVD+RW discs mightbe labeled as "4.7 GB", or "240 minutes of video", this does not mean thattheir usage is limited to either video or data applications. The Plus camp gets sleazier and sleazier with their marketing. So,they label their blanks at twice the "minutes" of DVD- formats? Nowonder some consumers are confused. and gets duped into DVD+! Sigh...

infiniti dvd r : Dont really know about that but just looked on my Verbatim which is a DVD+R and called a Video/Data recordableClaims 4.7GB Data and 120min Video. My Ricoh DVD+R for Data and Video on the front has 4.7gb 120 min whichI think must refer to video. The Philips DVD+RW has 120min Video and in small letter Extended Play240min, on the back of the box its HQ 60 mins SP 120 mins LP 180minEP 240min These are all obtainable on a Philips Standalone as well as thePanasonic and Pioneer the 2 latter being -RI am sure if you visit any high street supplier and look at the datayou will see for yourself, is this sleaze well you must think so.I'm glad the major brands are being honest, and comparing apples toapples. I hope 240 "minutes" does not become the standard for DVD+ orany recordable DVD media. It's certainly deceptive to the uneducatedconsumer. Personally, I think all DVD writable media should be ratedin minutes, at the MAX DVD-video bitrate. Or, just drop the "minutes"rating altogether. This certainly makes sense, the top rate should be used. I think mostDVD-R/RW major brands tend to go for SP and quote 120 minutes, looking atPioneer branded disc they state SP120mins, quite sure DVD-RAM is the same.Of course this only makes sense if you have a DVD Recorder that has an SPmode, and that mode equals 2 hours! Video tape has always been sold by therecording time at the standard speed, and the general public will expect thesame of DVD, so discs marked as 240 minutes or some other arbitrary time aregoing to bought on the pretence their is more recording space. That ismarketing for you!

infiniti dvd r : I've read a bit about the fake TDK DVD-R thing, and it's got me puzzled.Today I got some Infiniti 2x DVD-R discs at the local computer fair.Firstly these work perfectly in my A05 1.21 at 2x. Secondly, uponinspection with Nero CD Speed, they report themselves as TDK discs, withthe code TDKG02000000.Now in the discussions about the fake TDK discs that I've seen, it hasbeen claimed that TDK *only* sell their discs in individual jewel caseswith full TDK branding. If this is indeed true, then the Infiniti discsmust be fakes.Firstly, I can't believe such a recognisable brand as Infiniti would beusing fakes. Secondly, if they were fakes, then I'd expect them not towork in my A05.Surely TDK must sell their product to others to sell on? Assuming theydo, is there any way of telling whether a disc which reports itself asTDK is actually a genuine TDK product or not?, short of buying one andtesting whether it works?-- TobyHmm the last lot of infiniti I had were ritek g03"Toby Groves" wrote in message...On Sat, 08 Feb 2003 19:27:27 GMT, "Toby Groves" wrote:

infiniti dvd r : Truthfully? So I can buy a Pioneer, it is a good drive (the Sony) but I amextremely unhappy about the prices and it is my own fault for notresearching properly, but I just presumed (wrongly) that there was only oneformat.....Truthfully? So I can buy a Pioneer, it is a good drive (the Sony) but I amextremely unhappy about the prices and it is my own fault for notresearching properly, but I just presumed (wrongly) that there was only oneformat.....Best I've found is £4.69 (inc. VAT) for Infiniti DVD+RW from Medea International ()Robb Masters:Check out (my apologies here) They have DVD+R @ £2ishand DVD+RW @ £4.50ish.Deejay:I suppose it depends on what you are doing with the drive itself. If youare going into the whole "illegal" stuff (games/films etc) then the Pioneerseries of DVD-R drives are probably the best a the mo. No only is the mediacheaper than DVD+R/+RW but also the majority of users have the Pioneerdrives, therefore there is a lot of tech support available on forums and thelike. If you want a chat about it email me and we can discuss this further.Yeah, I'd like to know that too, instead of paying £4 a disk....
