kelly infiniti : PS... the honda dealership in decatur is owned by Jerry Damson also sokeepdriving to get that lower price.... I hear you can get really good deals on Honda's in Birmingham.Same here. In 1993 I was in the market for a new car. Had a pre-approvedloan voucher from Redstone Federal Credit Union in hand. Sat down onFriday with my "salesman" at Jerry Damson Acura. Explained I was readyto buy, asked if they were ready to sell? Showed them the voucher. Wenton to explain I had an appointment with the Infiniti dealer in Nashvillethe next morning at 10AM and this was JD's chance to sell an Acura. Elsethe next morning Infiniti would get a chance.JD's salesman totally offended my intelligence after filling out thesales quote/purchase paper and writing full list price down, added thewords "I agree to buy this car right now if we agree on the price." Orwords to that effect, complete with poor grammar. Then I learn the sales manager was gone for the night. A phone call orsomething later my answer was they would throw in the floor mats andpaint sealant. Otherwise full list price. Salesman acted offended when Ijust shook my head and stood up to leave.
kelly infiniti : Sat down with the Infiniti salesman after a most pleasant test drive.Referenced their ads in the paper showing a differently equiped car andprice. Made a rediculous lowball offer that I belived to be near dealercost but could be arrived at by subtracting full list of the optionsthis car did not have. 5 minutes later he returned and countered with aprice almost exactly what I expected. About the same price as the Acura, but this bottom of the line no-options Infiniti was loaded incomparison. I demanded and got an Infiniti coffee cup and an oil filterfor my first oil change thrown in at no additional charge. The next week I passed the Acura salesman on University Drive in my newInfiniti G20. Tooted my horn. He knew *exactly* who I was. There stillare not many Infiniti G20's in town. Even after the G20 populationtripled with immigrants from St. Louis. :-)At least back then, Infiniti dealers were not allowed to load cars withprice inflating overpriced junk such as paint sealers, undercoating, pinstripes, etc. Nor were the allowed to glue their nameplate to thecar. So I still wear my worn "Infiniti of Nashville" front plate intheir honor. kelly infiniti : --David Kelly N4HHE, ======================================== =============================The human mind ordinarily operates at only ten percent of itscapacity -- the rest is overhead for the operating system. One other problem i had with jerry damson was they had a $14.95 oilchange special advertised in the paper. My final bill was more like $25because they charged me an "enviromental fee" for disposal of my old oilof about $5 bucks (about the cost of new oil) and a service charge feeof about $5 bucks. plus tax on the whole thing. It wouldn't have been abig deal if they had been up front with the total price but the $14.95add was very misleading. Needless to say, I won't be back.I would suggest trying Auto-By-Tel. There's no obligation if you try it andthere's no fee involved. I submitted a request through their website lastyear and got an incredible deal from a local dealer. Their site is .You might also take a look at . Edmunds has a listing of theMSRP and dealer invoice prices on almost every make and model. It's a goodway to know if the price the dealer is offering is as good as he claims. kelly infiniti : From reading the replies, I have to wonder if anyone feels they gottheir car at a good price from Damson? For what it's worth, I think their service manager (Gil Williams) isgreat, but I bought my car in Mobile. The JD salesman wanted to workwith me, but "the guys in the office" were firm in their price.I don't know how much you have narrowed down the car you want, but that'swhere I would start -- come up with the exact car with required options, down to the optional floormats and color. Spend some time at the Edmund's site () so that you know what a "goodprice" is for the car you want. Type up a general letter outliningyour requirements and fax it to every dealership you are willing todrive to. Ask them to quote you their best price and make sure theyknow you have no loyalty to the Huntsville outlet. It might take a little bit more time upfront, but you will likelysave several hundred dollars vs. paying the local price. BackwaterHonda might be willing to make a special deal --- some places pridethemselves on the customers they win from "the big guys", and JDis one of the biggest within their market. kelly infiniti : Thanks to everyone who replied to my initial queryon the Infiniti G20/G20t ... to follow-on, wouldanyone care to share their comparisons (from testdriving or ownership) of older Camrys versus theG20/G20t? Handling? Power? [both are 140 HP in4 cylinders] I have a 1991 Camry, am consideringa '95 G20t coming off lease, and need some secondopinions ... thanks in advance,My dad has a 95 Camry LE that I have driven a lot. It drives excellent, really smooth in the town and quiet on highway. I drove it cross countryand it was a great vehical for long traveling. It does lack a lot inpower, though. To tell you the truth, I really would have guessed it hadless than 140 HP - but I guess the size of it makes it slower. The onlyproblem we have had is when braking hard, more towards the end of thebraking, there is a loud grinding noise that I can feel through thebrake pedal. We took this problem to the dealer, and they said it wasjust the accumulation of brake dust, and that it couldn't be helped. Idon't know - but it still does it (only when braking excessively). Theair-conditioning will freeze you - gotta love that! Haven't had anymaintenance problems yet - of course it only has about 37,000 miles onit...
