lexus es300 : I am in the market to purchase one of the above cars. I fell in love with the looks of the Audi A4, but am inpressed with the performance andquality of the Lexus. The Audi A4 is as luxurious as the Lexus, atleast as well built, and comes with great service. The Lexus is probablyquieter and probably cushions bumps better. The Audi, if you get it with theQuattro, can go places no other car can and handles better than anything elsein rain, mud, snow, etc. I've got a '97 A4 with Quattro. It's incredible. Never looked back.The Audi A4 "AT LEAST as well built" as the Lexus ES300? Certainlynot, if you look at the long term tests by the car magazines ordata from Consumer Reports, etc. Audi's quality is still spottyat best, while Lexus is setting the standard.The A4 is a nice, sporty little car that is probably more fun to drivethan the ES300, and the availability of AWD is a nice plus, but interms of luxury and build quality, it is no match for any Lexus, eventhe ES300.

lexus es300 : IMHO, the bottom line is (if you intend to only have one car), if you'resingle or married with no children for the next few years, take the Audibecause it's more fun to drive. If you're married, expecting or withchildren, the Lexus is the better choice.Audi was #3 on the J.D. Power list this year. That speaks for itself.Yes, legroom in the back seat in the A4 is a bit tight. Plenty of headroomthough.I've got several cars, including an A4Q, an old Escort, and the SO's '97Saturn SC2 with Traction Control. I've spent a lot of time in SUVs. IF youlive in a place with mud and/or snow/ice, and lots of corners or need toaccelerate on hills, the Quattro blows away everything else, including SUVs.(Subarus may be as good - I haven't compared.) It's important to note thatthe 4WD that an SUV uses has very little in common with a Torsen-differentialAWD, which is what Quattro is. You still have to drive more carefully in theyuck though - braking isn't improved over any other new ABS5-equipped car.One other point on this: If I lived in Los Angeles still, I'd probably bedriving a BMW, rather than an Audi Quattro. The weather justifies Quattrowhere I live now, it didn't there.
lexus es300 : Pardon me if this has already been discussed, but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has test driven and compared the new 1999 Acura 3.5 TL against the LEXUS 300ES. Apparently the LEXUS was a superior car to last year's ACURA, but what about the 1999 model. When choosing cars, I put value(performance/price) a bit higher on the "determining" factor than exteriorstyle.The 3.5RL is in a different class than the Lexus ES300.
