lexus es300 : I am in the market to purchase one of the above cars. I fell in love with the looks of the Audi A4, but am inpressed with the performance andquality of the Lexus. If you own the forementioned cars, please give methe low down. Thanks, Paracel LeThey're quite different cars. The Audi A4 is as luxurious as the Lexus, atleast as well built, and comes with great service. The Lexus is probablyquieter and probably cushions bumps better. The Audi, if you get it with theQuattro, can go places no other car can and handles better than anything elsein rain, mud, snow, etc. I've got a '97 A4 with Quattro. It's incredible. Never looked back. The Audi A4 "AT LEAST as well built" as the Lexus ES300? Certainlynot, if you look at the long term tests by the car magazines ordata from Consumer Reports, etc. Audi's quality is still spottyat best, while Lexus is setting the standard. The A4 is a nice, sporty little car that is probably more fun to drivethan the ES300, and the availability of AWD is a nice plus, but interms of luxury and build quality, it is no match for any Lexus, eventhe ES300.
lexus es300 : Bryan Chow wrote:There were some problems reported on these cars, but from myunderstandingmost of the problems are associated with the '95 models. From what Ihaveread, most owners are very happy with their A4's and most would highlyrecommend it to other people. 'Spotty' is certainly an overstatement.I will still take the Lexus over the Audi in terms of reliability, butas far as Audi vs. other European makes, notably BMW, I think it is atleaston the same par.Essentially buy the A4 for Quattro, and fun. Buy the Lexus forfit-finish,luxury and size. I'd driven the '97 ES300 and the '96 A4 (and rode inthe '98 Sports package A4 2.8). From a fun standpoint, the Lexus is nomatch for the Audi, although it is actually fairly fun to drive for thenon car enthusiast types.I have had a '97 Lexus ES-300 for three months, and couldn't behappier. I didn't look at the Audi, but did look at a BMW 328. Themain reasons for buying the Lexus were: 1) reputation for quality, luxury; 2) more room than the BMW, particularly in the back seat; 3)cheaper than the BMW; and 4) excellent dealer service, includingobtaining a free loaner car.By the way, some of the other responses to this thread stated thattheLexus is a dressed-up Camry. I have driven both cars, and, whilethisstatement may be true technically, there is no comparison in therideand overall luxury feeling you get from the Lexus.G. Sears

Last I remember they said that the Camry is a *decontented*ES300. hehehe Sorry, I couldnt resist. ----Rod My home page: ASI: wrote in article theway, some of the other responses to this thread stated thatThis time the ES300 was supposed to have been designed first, so the Camryis supposed to be based on the Lexus instead of the other way around as inthe past.Based on reports of the A4 thus far and, generally, on Audi for the past10 years, the Lexus is definitely superior to Audi when it comes tobeing "well built" (fit & finish, quality) and "great service". And theLexus is not "probably quieter and probably cushions bumps better", ITIS quieter and smoother. The ES300 also has a roomier interior andlarger trunk, (the A4, classified as a Compact, is only about 3 incheslarger than a Civic sedan) so if size and space is an important factor, point for the Lexus. However, the Audi 2.8 Quattro is a couple of thousands $$ less than theES300, it handles better, and is more of a "driver's" car than the Lexus(that "German feeling"). The new 190 hp engine means the Audi can nowaccelerate about as well as the Lexus. I think the Quattro option isoverrated. I've talked to many who have driven SUVs for many years andthe consensus is that, when they're not off-roading, the 4WD thing is awaste of money because 99% of the time, it's not needed. In fact, herein the snowbelt, many SUVs/4WDs end up in ditches during snowstormsbecause they thought they were invincible. They weren't.
lexus es300 : IMHO, the bottom line is (if you intend to only have one car), if you'resingle or married with no children for the next few years, take the Audibecause it's more fun to drive. If you're married, expecting or withchildren, the Lexus is the better choice.Audi was #3 on the J.D. Power list this year. That speaks for itself.Yes, legroom in the back seat in the A4 is a bit tight. Plenty of headroomthough.I've got several cars, including an A4Q, an old Escort, and the SO's '97Saturn SC2 with Traction Control. I've spent a lot of time in SUVs. IF youlive in a place with mud and/or snow/ice, and lots of corners or need toaccelerate on hills, the Quattro blows away everything else, including SUVs.(Subarus may be as good - I haven't compared.) It's important to note thatthe 4WD that an SUV uses has very little in common with a Torsen-differentialAWD, which is what Quattro is. You still have to drive more carefully in theyuck though - braking isn't improved over any other new ABS5-equipped car.One other point on this: If I lived in Los Angeles still, I'd probably bedriving a BMW, rather than an Audi Quattro. The weather justifies Quattrowhere I live now, it didn't there.
lexus es300 : Pardon me if this has already been discussed, but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has test driven and compared the new 1999 Acura 3.5 TL against the LEXUS 300ES. Apparently the LEXUS was a superior car to last year's ACURA, but what about the 1999 model. If you compared the two which one do you prefer.I would choose the LEXUS.---------------------------------- ---------Wrestling Audio Mp3's. o The Rock Interviewo Goldberd Interviewo Dateline NBC Wrestling with Conscious; Vince & Erico Goldberg challenging Steve AustinFrom Acura, you can choose the 3.2TL or 3.5RL - there isn't a 3.5TL. I'm notsure which one you're actually talking about, but I chose the 3.2TL over theLexus ES300 due to performance and price. When choosing cars, I put value(performance/price) a bit higher on the "determining" factor than exteriorstyle. The 3.5RL is in a different class than the Lexus ES300. One's sporty (Lexus),one's total luxury (3.5RL).-----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
