lexus parts : How come people can't call the new 98 Honda Accord interior as luxurious? The interior is characterized as luxury-like, which isn't exactly luxury. Now the interior comes with leather seats, leather wall trimmings and walnut"wood" trim. The kind of things you would find in a luxury car, so whatmakes it different from other luxury automobiles? Quality of parts, presentation of parts etc. Finally the Lexus warranty is different from the Toyota warranty. Plus theservice for Lexus cars is superior to that of just simply "Toyota" cars.On a side note, if you prefer the styling of the ES300 over the Camry, thenthat could warrant a purchase too. Considering the Camry looks like everyother mid-sized sedan in the market, whereas the Lexus brings on a differentlook from the usual.Otherwise the cars are the same, they are built on the same base, meaningthat they are in similar size as well as the same engine, not sure if theinterior room is identical, but visibility might differ slightly due todifferent pillar formation. The 98 Accord leather interior is way more luxurious looking than the one inthe Camry. Check it out for youself. It looks like it belongs in the LS400.
lexus parts : I need a repair manual (say, Haynes or Chilton's) for a 1990 Lexus ES250From what I understand, this is basically a Camry of the same year withsome extra features.I was unable to find a repair manual for the Lexus. Does anyone knowwhere I might find one? If not, can I use a 1990 Camry's manual? Howmuch of the Lexus is the same as a Camry? Also, when ordering repair parts, can I use Camry parts? I imaginethey'll be cheaper than Lexus parts. Are Lexus parts even availableexcept from a dealer?I'm currently interested in changing the steering boot (rack andpinion). It is leaking steering fluid at a fast rate. I also need tochange a couple of vacuum hoses.Let me see if I have it right. You paid extra money over the Camry to buythe Lexus. But now you want to put the Camry parts on the Lexus. If I have a Camry and put Lexus parts on it then what do I have? a Cluxus?Lamry? Why do you want to downgrade your machine? Richard wrote:Nope. I bought the car below the blue book trade-in value of a 1990 Camry. Ican sell it for the price of a Lexus in a year or two. lexus parts : Still considering an ES-300 vs. Audi A4, BMW 325xi, and Acura CL. Wentto service dept. at Lexus dealer today to inquire about maintenanceschedule and costs.1. A 10,000 mile service includes primarily an oil change/lube/filter,tire rotation/balance, fluid check/topoff, and retorque drive shaftflange bolts. The other "services" included are all "inspections/checksof xxx" (e.g. inspect engine drive belts and hoses) and a wash/vacuum.The only real value and/or time expended that I see is theoil/lube/filter and tire rotation. The cost? $150. Basically for an oilchange and inspections (the service every 5K is also basically an oilchange minus the tire rotation ... which runs about $85).2. A 60,000 mile service includes everything as above, plusinspect/clean brakes, drain/refill ATF, drain/refill differential fluid, replace distributor cap/wires/rotor, replace timing belt, coolant flush, replace plugs, service battery, replace air filter, etc. This costs$1500.Now ... I expect Lexus to charge a premium for service, and am willingto pay a bit more. But to tell you the truth, I'm a little shell-shockedby these prices. Especially when compared to the maintenance costs ofthe other cars I am considering (Audi and BMW include 3-4 years ofmaitenance free-of-charge). Is this reflective of other experiences outthere? lexus parts : Also, it seems to me that the "minor" services that are generic and arelittle more than oil changes could probably be done at a trustworthyindependent garage, at a significant savings. It would appear that thereis very little in the way of Lexus parts and very little Lexus-trainedskills that are required. The major tune-ups (e.g. the 60K above),though would sensibly be done at the dealer. Does anybody do this? Doesit make sense?Larry, are you thinking about an '02 ES, or an earlier year? Frank"Larry Edelstein" wrote in message...Larry, First of all, the 02 ES has a air conditioner filter, which thefactory recommends replacing every 7,500 or 10,000 miles, depending on howyou service your Lexus (7,500 intervals, or 5,000) Hopefully, this filteris included in the 10K service price. Second, all Lexuses, from the 2000model year on up, except the IS, and GS300, have 120,000 mile spark plugs.Timing belts need replacement at 90k, not 60k on this model. All thisinformation is in the Owners Manual Supplement. Frank"Larry Edelstein" wrote in message...You're absolutely right about the timing belt. However, the dealer recommendsreplacement at 60K due to the weather in the NY area. And they may have 120Kmile spark plugs, but it sure doesn't appear to reduce the maintenance costs. lexus parts : Unless the timing belt is going to cause the pistons to crash into the valves, you can always take your chances and go a bit longer than 60K?If weather is an factor, then I'd think a critical consideration would be howmany years the belt was exposed to that weather and if the car was outside allthe time.I wonder if the timing belt be inspected without a major disasembly on any LexusModels? And are their any other critical belts that are not visible?Every car dealer charges top rates compared to most private mechanics. So the solution is to do the fluids ect. at some trustworthy garage and leave themore critical items to the dealer.Go visit you local Toyota dealer and see what he'd charge for the basicslike oil/ filter, tire rotation and retorquing. Basics can be done byanyone... it's not rocket science. In my opinion, the only time a dealerspecific job is justified is when it's very car specific (learning curveissues) or requires a special tool.Been there tried that - did not work for me. Toyota part numbers aredifferent than Lexus part numbers. If you are going to own a Lexus thentake it to Lexus - it's part of the aura of owning a Lexus. If you don'tlike the costs then don't own the car.
