Every carhas strengths and weaknesses, and the relative value and importance ofthose are determined by individual subjective choices. In otherwords, what's first on the importance list of one, is 4th on someoneelse's list.To me, the strengths of the LS430 are it's interior front seat room,certain features (such as the voice activated NAV system), quietness,speed, and reliability.The only weakness for me is that the external appearance is somewhatbland.The problem Lexus has (and they may simply not care) is not one of styling(one look at the latest Beemers will tell you that they are certainly nobetter than Lexus in that regard...and M-B is just plain boring in styling).The problem Lexus has is in putting some soul into their cars. Lexi are veryquietly satisfying to drive, built better than any other brand car on theplanet, and cheaper than the German brands, but they are not fun to drive inthe way that cars like BMW's and Porsches are. Thy don't put a smile on yourface. They don't make you eager to take that drive home. That is the onething missing and I don't really see Toyota making any attempt to fix theproblem. They may not even consider it a problem. Maybe Toyota just wantsLexus to be the best Cadillac that GM never built.

Lexus has everything but styling. With strong money,they should hire some top Italian designers. I remember when mercedes were allugly boxes....now they have more curves due to a new team of stylists. Infinity (and therefore Nissan) are pumping out more horsepower than ever. AG35 coupe puts out 280 HP! That's way more than any Beemer, Benz, and Lexus inthe same class. I love Toyota Motors and Honda Motors. I'm also waiting forthe day when they have better exterior styling!I disagree .. Comparing each level of Lexus with its competing models, I thinkthey're right on par with the looks of BMW and Mercedes, save for maybe theES300. Of course it's purely subjective.. but I think an LS430 looks everybit as nice as a Benz S, and better than a BMW 7. I think the GS lookssportier than the BMW 5 and the previous Merc E (the new E is pretty nice...Ithink it takes it now..but heck, we're talking about a design that's been outsince 1998 in the GS). And the IS, well I think it's a toss up there with thebeemer 3 and the Merc C. And the SC430?? I think that's got more style than aheck of a lot of other cars out there.
lexus problem : It is a fact that the biggest problem with Lexus or even Acura is thatthey are NOT driving cars rather comfort mobiles. They have no historybehind them unlike the German cars for example. That's why they do not havethe same prestige as a BMW or Benz.That's not to say they don't do something's well. I would probably have toadmit Lexus has better customer service then the German's, but I don't agreewith the notion that they offer a better value because if it was all aboutmoney people would buy a GM or a FordHey, it's a free world! Wan't the same ride & quality w/o the brand name,buy the solara.Right. They don't break down as often, and arent as expensive to fix.Cost of Ownership = Purchase Price + Maintenance - Resale ValueGM and Ford, PP is moderate, Maintenance is infinate, Resale Value = 0Benz & BMW hold their values extremely well. That's what's meant byvalue, don't confuse the term with price. Lexus has higherFeatures/Price ratio than BMW & Benz.

And ifI am willing to pay the extra $0.05US per mile for the MB, which will lastlonger?Certainly safety is a concern, but how many of these fine cars do you expectto crash? :)You only need to be in one crash to believe that safety is more important thananything else about the car.realistically, i don't think that a comperable weight lexus vs. amercedes or bmw is going to make much difference in terms of safety. all have plenty of front and side airbags, are all very sound vericles. with seatbelts on, passengers are probably more or less as safe in eachcar. rest assured that by choosing such a vehicle your passengers are assafe as possible, and focus your attention on which car is leastexpensive to repair after the accident. that aside, my own anecdotalevidence is that bmw's tend to have a great safety reputation, but Ifeel just as safe in my gs400 as i would in a 5 or 7 series.
