lexus sc400 : If you use the dealer for maintenance, it's expensive, even when you considerthe free services up front. When I first owned it, they were still usingLexus ES300s for loaner cars, but they switched to rental cars to save money. This is a big negative for me. I replaced it with a Cadillac STS, and theyoffer Cadillac loaners with service. One other 'like' item was the Nakamichi stereo. Sound was fabulous, and ithas big enough buttons to operate easily on the road. That's about it off the top of my head...Oh yeah, insurance was more expensive by far than for the Caddy.--************************************** ******************************* Mike Forman ** ** Representing only my personal opinion, not that of my employer **************************************** *****************************On 2 Apr 1995, CraigS2 wrote: Ahh, the gorgeous Lexus Coupes. Let's see, where do I start. I have a 93 Black Onyx SC400 and have not experienced any serious problems what-so-ever. The car has been pushed hard, driven soft, and made many long road trips, and I would have to say this is arguably the best car on the planet. The ride is firm, yet gentle, and it handles curves very well for a luxo-coupe, but I also have 235/45/ZR17's instead of the stock 225/50/ZR16's, but even with stock wheels, it does not miss a beat. The only service problem that I have had is that the CD player would just skip sometimes for no reason, but I showed this to the dealer, and after 30 minutes, I left with a new 95' player in the trunk. When they say customer service, they mean it! The tranny is just so incredibly smooth, too. Even flooring the car, which I wouldn't recommend in your car-do it to the dealer's, does not make the shifts hard at all. Road/tire noises are not noticable even with the radio and air off, and the seats are just so damn comfortable. In general, get the car, you won't regret it!

lexus sc400 : Motor Trend recently speculated that the SC400 would bereplaced in 1997 by a derivative of a car called a "Crown"that is sold now in Japan. That was really all they said. The Crown belongs to the most luxurious segment of the Toyota cars in Japan. (Not sure if it's exported anywhere.) If the new SC400 would really be a derivative of the Crown, we won't be able to call it a 'sporty coupe' anymore. 8^(*======================================= ==============**======================== =============================*Do not know what all the numbers mean, but my wife has had a 400 for4 years. It is one of the worst cars I have driven. I has virtuallyno cornering ability of speak off, has spongy brakes that jerk youaround every time you come to a light and the car is a riot ifthere is one snow flake within 10 miles of it. (We heard from thedealers and our friends that the 'traction' that Lexus offers forfool hardly souls who want to drive this couch on wheels in any kindof snow is worthy of a top 10 item in one of Letterman's list.) Mywife has had enough spins in our driveway and has (probably due tohitting her head on the wind shield) come to her senses and boughta AWD Subaru. We keep the Lexus to impress people who do not knowabout it. Other than that it is a great car. Just park it in yourliving room, install a TV and you are done -- you do not have tobuy a stereo or furniture.

lexus sc400 : Umm, not to sound sarcastic, but if a Ferrari could not handlewell in snow, does that mean it is a terrible car? According to mymemory, the car comes with Goodyear GS-D's which are not at all made tohandle snow, and I put Pirelli's on it, and I don't even consider gettingtraction in the snow, because I know I won't. When the snow comes, I juststrap on the Blizzak snow tires, and then traction is not a problem. Ifher decision to buy an AWD Suburu was purely because of traction, I thinkit would be safe to say that you live up north, and I would recommnedgetting snow tires, and then reporting on its traction. I also don't seehow you can say it can't take turns because it out slaloms the Mitsubishi3000GT VR-4 and most BMW's, so if they don't have cornering abilities, Idon't know what does. The Lexus handles well, but not as good as any of the BMWs being madenow (including the 740). From my experience the SC400 has good torsionalrigidity, and good steering, but not up to the rigidity or steering preciseness of the BMWs. Driver road information is good for a Toyota, but again below the BMWs.

lexus sc400 : All of my info is taken from CG magazine (CAR GRAPHIC), OPTIONS, andCAR-BOY. These are all Japanese magazines. That's where I saw the firstAmerican Camry. Actually, in Japan, the Camry is different. What we callthe Camry here is the Toyota Scepter. And in Japan, they have a differentCamry. Like the Toyota Celica's here are in both the liftback and thecoupe. In Japan, they only call the liftback a Celica, and the coupeversion something else. So in other words, we get the crappy stuff. Also, the Lexus SC400, which in Japan the current name is the ToyotaSoarer, is available with the 6-speed manual transmission. On top ofthat, FYI, the Lexus GS 300, which is the Toyota Aristo in Japan, iscalled the Toyota Aristo, is available with the same TWIN TURBO as in theSupra and the same GETRAG 6-speed manual. And to put "salt on thewounds", they have a new MR-2 SPIDER...regards...And will there be a jes'-plain Camry coupe by then too? Severalpeople recently claimed that the new ('97) Camry platform was goingto be sedan-only for its lifetime. But I find it easier to believethat, as with the previous Camry generation that debuted in the '92model year, Toyota will eventually introduce non-sedan models too.
