lexus uk : I faxed the MD of Lexus UK on the evening after my car was returned. Thiswas a Thursday. On the following Tuesday, things began to move. My car wascollected on the Wednesday and delivered back the next day in near mintcondition with everything fixed, a new CD player and a full tank of petrol.To give them credit, Lexus Cambridge did realign my steering wheel for freeafter I had the tracking done. By the way, I should point out that I managedto get two new front tyres and have the tracking and camber adjusted for£220 at Apex Tyres in Peterborough. Lexus Cambridge quoted me £390 and I'msure I'm not including the VAT on the tyres there.I've posted my trials and tribulations with Marshall Cambridge here in thepast. Those of you who can remember the frustrations I have endured duringmy time as a Lexus customer will appreciate that this recent episode hasn'thelped matters. The "Goodwill Voucher" of a free "A" service which Ireceived last week was a nice gesture though.Sounds like the Lexus dealers do have one or two bad ones. Too bad - they willget the same shoddy reputation that Mercedes has if they don't watch out verycarefully. The local (South Carolina) Lexus dealer is good over the 10 years wehave had Lexi.
lexus uk : Well folks, my CD changer has expired again so I thought I'd share myexperience with all...My is200se (uk spec) has now done 68K miles since I took delivery ofit in Sep '99. About 2 months after I got it, the cd changer startedmisbehaving - at first it was just failing to eject the cd properly.You could hear the motor labouring, and the CD would pop out if youbelted the side of the console with your fist. This got progressivelyworse - and a second fault developed, although I didn't notice it atfirst. I found that the changer would not load the CD fully into thedrive before trying to spin it. This resulted in several of my CDsbeing given large scratches and scuffs in circles on the surface ofthe disk, where the spindle had been touching the disk. When the diskwas removed from the drive again, a large scuff would be cut on thedisk running straight out from the centre to the edge of the disk. Atthis point I'd already complained to Lexus Guildford about it, theydid nothing about it though; although they'd already proven themselvesincompetent to me anyway when I'd taken the is200 to them for my 10Kmile service.
lexus uk : To cut a long story short, my 20K mile service came up and this time Iwent to Octagon Lexus in Bracknell. Through pressure from my leasecompany rather than helpfulness by any of Lexus' representatives, Imanaged to get the whole unit swapped after a wait of 6 weeks or so -this was about a year ago. "Yes", they said at the time, "there is aknown problem with the Lexus is200 CD changer".Although Lexus UK promised to replace my scratched CDs, I couldn't getLexus Bracknell to return my calls regarding paying for them... soI've got about 20 CDs (and they're bloody expensive over here in theUK) that are out of action, and it looks like I've got to replace themmyself because I just don't have time to chase these people until theypay up.Here I am now - a year down the line and it's broken again. I can'tchange CD, I can't eject CD's from the unit, all I get is "ERR 3"displayed on the screen, and it flips back to radio.So.. I'd assume that the problem with is200 CD changers isn't fixed..I'm looking at my third CD changer unit in less than 2 years, and thepossibility that some more CDs are trashed. I guess I'm going to haveto wait weeks for the CD to be delivered and installed again, and whenyou commute 80 miles each way to work like me, you take this sort ofstuff seriously!
lexus uk : What's the moral of this story? Well, I can't say the is200 is a badcar because it's not. But as I accelerate unchecked towards yetanother set of speed cameras, my accelerator pedal caught yet againunder the floormat (...anyone else get the floor mat recall yet?)listening to nothing but the whine of a jammed cd player, I wonder whyI didn't listen to my Dad's advice and go for something German.Just a little ray of sunshine to brighten up a dull Friday :-/My CD player occasionally gets discs stuck (slot 4 being the worst offender)but so far, and I bet I'm tempting fate here, mine hasn't damaged any whenthey've finally come out.Have you contacted the Lexus MD? His name is Stuart McCullough. I wrote tohim earlier this year complaining about my less than satisfactory Lexus"experience" and to his credit, he replied apologising and give me the nameof the regional sales manager to contact. That I did but I'm still waitingfor him to get back to me to arrange getting my car sorted. This was threemonths ago. I've given up hope and will be reading the riot act to the newLexus franchise in Cambridge when my 30k service is due.
lexus uk : Are there any competent Lexus dealers in the UK? Has anyone got anythinggood to say about their dealer? I'm wondering whether it's because we're atthe bottom end of the Lexus range with our IS200s, we don't matter as muchas GS and LX customers.Anyway good luck with getting your car sorted Justin. I think it's a realshame that the IS is spoiled by dealers who don't appear to care.As you say IS owners are at the bottom end of the range, but having won acustomerfrom the longer establised marques Lexus should be treating existing(younger) IS ownersas future GS/RX/LS owners.I have so far had excellent service from Lexus Swindon, although whilst youhave to accept thatproblems are always a possibility, the manner in which they are dealt withgives the dealer achance to gain/retain a reputation above other dealers.After a few bad experiences with Lexus Hatfield I switched to Lexus Woodfordand I have nothing but praise for them.I haven't had any CD problems with my 40K mile IS200 (other than refusing toplay the odd CDR), and they changed the floor mats about a year ago free ofcharge).
