oldsmobile starfire : This car is the rare Starfire Model. Garaged for the last 10 years.Presently located in Caldwell, Idaho, but could deliver to SacramentoCalifornia or location between Caldwell and Sacramento. It runs good,has minor body damage on right rear quarter panel. No significantrust. Needs paint. Good glass and chrome. This is a solid #4 carand is complete and could be easily restored. The Oldsmobile Starfirehad the high performance 394 CID "Rocket-8" and this particular carhas Air Conditioning. The standard package came with floor mountedautomatic transmission and tachometer as well as leather bucketsin front and leather in rear. The leather in the car is useableand probably repairable but a full restoration would probably necessitate newleather. Youreallyget a lot of modelcar building done when the polarbears take over thestreets of the city (Stockholm)!Therefore I was wondering if some one knows if there are any kits (plasticor resin) made of the 1960 Buick and the 1961 Oldsmobile Starfire?Somehow I've got the feeling that the answer will come from our own carguruMr Art Anderson. Can anybody beat him to it?AMT made both a 1960 Buick Invicta 2dr hardtop and a convertible in 1960 only (these are currently being produced by The Modelhaus)No styrene kit was ever made of the 1961 Oldsmobile Starfire, although there have been a couple of resin kits done over the years. Johnson reported thatsheep rancher William Brazel found wreckage of the spacecraft on July 3,1947. Believers now argue over the site of the wreckage, but they agreeit was on a New Mexico range, about 30 to 60 miles north to northwest ofRoswell.Johnson's story said Brazel took pieces of the wreckage to the sheriffand the U.S. Army air base at Roswell.On July 8, 1947, the story said, Col. William Blanchard, commander ofthe nuclear bomber group based at Roswell, issued a press release sayingthe base had custody of a "flying disc" from outer space. A statementthe next day from higher up the command said the original press releaseabout a flying disc was wrong, that the object was a weather balloon.The Air Force continues to debunk the story of recovering the craft andperforming autopsies on alien passengers. oldsmobile starfire : I believe (please correct me if i'm wrong) that the 1975 Monza was thefirst U.S. car model introduced offering *square* headlights--all U.S.models previously had round headlights (which we're now returning to).Chevrolet also put square headlights in a couple other models thatyear, including the Impala. Was there any reason why there was a sudden shift to square headlights in the70's? Did square allow for better visibility or was it just for style (similarto how cars in the late 70's got progressively boxier).Actually, the 1975 model year was the first to bring *square*headlights; this design appearance appearing en mass, with the Monza(and its Oldsmobile Starfire and Buick Skyhawk sister-clones) as amongmany 1975 model year automobiles to feature these.It sure was. I was 12 at the time and thought the Chevy Monza was thecoolest car in the world; somewhere in a box is the 1/24 scale model Ibuilt of said car, painted a very tasteful purple-on-black. Mmm.The original spy photos of the Monza circa '73 showed the traditional5" round lights. It was certainly a shocker when it came out with thenew rectangular lights.
