Ido miss thew power windows but other than that, I like it.It has a stiffer suspension than the competition and a much better handling.It also has good power. The sportier feel, the price and the cargo spacewere key factors for me in choosing the Impreza wagon.I do not feel attracted by the SUV concept nor the Outback concept. Ireally drive on the road most of the time and I really want a car thathandles well on the road. The other cars that I was looking at were theFord Focus wagon and the Hunday Elantra Wagon.
subaru ca : The Elantra has good power and is much cheaper than the Subaru. I reallyliked it but the suspension was too soft for my taste and the interior wascheaper looking than the Subaru (even if the fit and finish was quite good).The Ford Focus striked me as a very good looking car. I really liked thesize: It is huge. The problem is that it is underpowered compared to theHunday and Subaru and the suspension was way too soft. Also, the MontrealFord dealers were only willing to sell a few specific packages and I had thechoice between the base model or a pricy Zetec upgrade. To me, the Subaruwas a better value than the Ford.And whatever you do, if you have to drive in the winter, think aboutpurchasing winter tires.Err um, may depend on the country, never heard of an Impreza Brightonhere in the US but there is (actually, *was*) a Legacy Brighton. Also,the goodies depend upon the year (and probably the country). We have a2000 Impreza Outback Sport and there isn't even an *option* for alimited-slip differential much less one installed stock.

subaru ca : I'm poised to write a letter to Subaru of Canada due to my recent serviceproblems (7 visits to the dealer in 2 months). The car (98 Outback) is in theshop right now getting its fifth clutch in 4 years (1 in May 2000, 1 in April2001, 1 in September 2001, 1 in January 2002, and 1 today). None of the clutcheshave been worn but they have been replaced under warranty to cover variousissues like slipping, clunking, chattering, shuddering, etc. I also had theshortblock replaced last month and have since had some nasty vibrations thatcause some major rattles. They replaced the timing belt tensioner to cure thisand told me it was fixed. By the time the temperature needle started to move itwas rattling and vibrating as if they didn't even look at it.Anyway, today is their last chance. Each time they say they've fixed it butnothing has improved. If I wasn't so busy I would have done something about thissooner. But I barely have time to even think about it. Again they promised eachtime would be the last. I can't handle the inconvenience of having to driveacross town to be without my ill car for another day.
subaru ca : So does anyone have an address or email address that I can send a complaint towith Subaru of Canada? I'm located in Winnipeg and dealing with Frontier Toyota(only Subaru service in town). I'm hoping to get some kind of satisfaction orcompensation for the lousy service I've received. At the very least they canarrange for a nice shiny new car for me and my wife to drive the kids around inwhile they FIX my car! The big orange 2-door (Transit bus) is not the way I wantto get around town while my $27K car keeps visiting the shop.Snail mail or phone only on their website. If they had a customer serviceemail address they would probably need to hire a few<hundred>staff to coverthe mountain of complaints.JI had coverstation with him this week about dealer shenanigans. He was sympathetic but, like Pontius Pilate, disclaimed Subaru's responsibility for supervising dealers. The problem was the dealer's $1195 freight and PDI and $180 admin fee. He told me that freight should be $400. and PDI should be about 2 to 3 hours at shop rate of $65/hr. but its up to the dealer, not Subaru as to what is charged.
