Lovell and Turvey are the first ever SCCAProRally Overall winners at the Pikes Peak, and become the first Britishcitizens to secure a class win at the famed "race to the clouds." Subaruteammates Ramana Lagemann and Michael Kidd delighted fans with a nearlyperfect drive to the 14,110-ft. summit, posting a time of 12 minutes,23.98 seconds.In their first appearance at Pikes Peak, Lovell and Turvey charted toptimes throughout practice, working with team engineers on engine mappingcharacteristics to overcome power loss at higher altitudes. Lovell andTurvey were the first Open class competitors to tackle the course onrace day, setting a blistering pace that would never be challenged. Infact, their winning Subaru finished less than 4 seconds behind the muchmore powerful Unlimited Class Ford RS200 rally car of Swedish rallylegend, Stig Blomqvist.

The WRX came to a rest teetering nearly halfway over a cliff,the front wheels dangling above a drop of more than 2,000 ft. Kiddquickly emerged from the car, enlisting the aid of Subaru Team personneland photographers to hold onto the rear of the car until a course safetyvehicle arrived. However, the duo returned to competitive form on raceday, benefiting from a softer suspension setup and some expert advicefrom veteran Peak competitor, Robby Unser. Lagemann and Kidd finishedfourth overall in Open Class, just .08 of a second behind the MitsubishiLancer of Lauchlin O'Sullivan and Matt Chester."I had to alter my driving style to suit the unique nature of thecourse. Each corner is completely different and it's essential to carrymaximum speed through every one," said Lagemann. "One extra mile perhour in the lower sections can pay big dividends at the top of thecourse. We learned a lot this weekend, and helped earn valuable pointsin the Manufacturer's Championship."

Storming through toclinch all twelve stage wins, the dynamic duo put in an exceptionalperformance in their Impreza WRC 2002 to take their second consecutivevictory at this event and finish 4 minutes 54.7 seconds ahead ofsecond-placed Subaru driver Possum Bourne.Today's action started at 0500hrs when the remaining 30 competitorstravelled north of the host town of Karuizawa to contest the final 12stages and a further 65.64 competitive which were based around a centralservice park at Kita Karuizawa. Weather conditions were miserable fromthe outset and continuous rain made driving conditions on the twistymountain roads treacherous.Subaru driver, Toshi Arai once again took control and put in a faultlessperformance to charge through the day's stages and claim his secondconsecutive overall victory. Driving in his Impreza WRC2002, which hadbeen set-up to cope with the day's hazardous conditions, his win wassupported by seven-time Australian Rally Champion Possum Bourne, whodrove superbly in a Group A Subaru Impreza to finish second and completean impressive Subaru top one, two.
