used lexus ls400 : If you are spending this kind of money you should be aware of theNADA prices for these cars.Personally I would not go for either. Base list on a 90 was 36k. What about a Q45? Much better car, but less popular - available for thelow 20's.It doesn't sound like either car is under warranty - either too old ortoo hi mileage. I'd want a few years warranty on a car of this price -they can be very expensive to fix.the ls400 was unique in how bare the base model was. sure, the baseis $36K, but you won't find one on the lot. if by some freak chanceyou did, you'd find that it had camry style seats, one steering wheeland 4 tires.. (ok, i'm exaggerating but you get the picture). sunroofcosts close to $1K, so do a lot of the other options that are standardon the ls400's competitors. by the time "comparable" options areadded such as leather seats, premium sound system and silly gizmos,$36K sounds like a distant dream. check out the nada book or any ofthe other used prices books if you don't believe me. when i looked atone, the sticker was something like $50K and that was a few years ago.

used lexus ls400 : when i went to check out a q45 with some miles on it, the distinctimpression that i got was that the car ages very rapidly.. not interms of styling but in terms of durability. i.e. loose fittingglass, tinny doors, squeaks and moans.. i agree. why not get a loaded, brand new, fully warranteed pontiac bonnevillessei. supercharged v6, abs, airbag, compact disk, leather etc. etc. for around 28k sticker. and it comes with 4 new tires!Michael, you must be living on another planet. Look at the paper. How many usedLexii do you see? What posessed you to say that BMW or Benz would bedesirable., if you reject Lexus because of high maitanance costs? Welcome tothe real worls. Lexus NEVER cost $36k. To put it in layman's terms, you couldnot, as Eliot pointed earlier, go and buy one for that amount of money. The cars were and are popular, people, contrary to your beleive, are keepingthem, therefore the high resale price. If you want one and willing to pay, that's what you have to put up with. If not, go buy a Buick.MIke.S

used lexus ls400 : This is right... the LS400 (in the UK) has *gained* the highest resale value out of *ANY* car recently. Its resale value has gained 1,200 pounds over the BMW/Merc 500 pound increase...There are bad apples everywhere. The percentages of good to bad is whatmatters. Fair is fair and bad mouthing is not the way to go IMHO.And according to you, it was totally unfair of J.D. Power ranking the Lexus dealers 3rd highest in their latest reports - right behind Infiniti and Mercury, eh? and if you had your way, I guess you would put BMW and MB right at 1 and 2 while Lexus and Infiniti would be 1 and 2 from the other side of the list. Tell me something, does it still bother you that the Lexus and Infiniti almost whipped out MB & BM off the market place? Them as*ho*es, how darethey do that :)Don't get me wrong, I hate the 400LS (I do love the 400SC). My adviceto the original poster is to find a 91/92 400SC with about 20k miles thathe likes and see if he can deal/afford/want_it ...

used lexus ls400 : TQM now equals Lexus? We're really stretching it here. However, While weare talking about what the market will bear vis-a-vis quality. I understandthat Lexus is now coming out with an all terrain vehicle which except for theleather and wood interior is mechanically identical to the ISUZU trooper. Lexus is no better than the company it was spawned from. It may be a goodcar. It may be a great car. However, it is not TQM, nor is everything thatLexus, or Acura, or Oldsmobile for that matter what it appears to be. Aneconomy 4WD is just that, no matter whose label goes on it.From: ()Subject: Re: 1984 Buick Century Newsgroups: bit.listserv.qualityDate: 1996/03/01 In a message dated 96-03-01 16:09:23 EST, you write:Maybe so, it's still a Toyota impersonating a Lexus. No matter how manyagimmicks and fobs that Lexus adds to the vehicle, the fact remains that itisn't a Lexus. I never said it wasn't a real nice vehicle. I am glad thatyou are happy with your choice of vehicles, as everyone should be. Myoriginal statement stands. What is labeled Lexux, Acura or Oldsmobile forthat matter isn't necessarily the product of that company. Representative ofTQM? I think not. The company policies that are behind the product perhapsare representative of TQM in action.

used lexus ls400 : From: ()Subject: Re: 1984 Buick Century Newsgroups: bit.listserv.qualityDate: 1996/03/01 Let's get the information correct here. Lexus has brought out a SUV (sportutility vehicle) with the name LX450. It is an upgraded Toyota LandCruiser, which is the largest 4x4 Toyota manufactures. The Land Cruiser ispretty expensive already (around $40K, I think). The LX450 is around $50K.So we are not talking about converting an economy 4x4 into a Lexus. I cantell you, from having checked one out, it's a real nice vehicle.I also happen to own a 1991 Lexus LS400, which I bought used about a yearago for just over $20,000. I figured this was a much better auto investment(if that's the right word) than a new regular car that would cost about thesame amount. We like it a lot, and you can definitely tell the differencewhen driving it from most other cars. I wouldn't necessarily buy a new one,but I think buying a used Lexus rather a new Taurus or a new Concorde or ...makes sense (obviously). Long ago, I owned a 1975 Buick Century StationWagon. It is was a pretty average car, with average fit and finish andnothing to really get you excited. I bought it when I had two little kids, and it was like buying a minivan today.
